I am no stranger to "the hood" nor am I a stranger to upper echelon big city life either. He is originally from Indiana and I'm originally from Brooklyn/NYC. Living downtown isn't out of the question, we'd want to keep in the safer areas. Diversity is super important to us! Also, we make decent pay, however we want to keep things affordable as well. We have a very low tolerance for racism, homophobia and the like. We want to live somewhere that isn't "dangerous", however we don't want to live somewhere that isn't exactly going to welcome us with cookies. I have heard that both Oak Park and Evanston are diverse, more on the liberal side and generally safe to live in - this is the criteria I am trying to follow. We are both looking for a nice suburban area or urban area on the nicer end to live in. He is a massage therapist and currently works in La Grange (he is living with friends right now) and I work in the Title Insurance field (homes, not cars). My partner and I are planning to live in Chicago or at least right outside of Chicago and I need some thoughts on where the best places for us would be.Ī little about us: We are a gay couple, he is African American and I am Afro-Puerto Rican, we are both in our 20's and come from decent paying industries.
